Former Camper Pens Book on Camp Experiences
Many people have credited Cradle Beach with affecting their lives long after they have been campers, counselors or volunteers at camp. Area author Laura Cunningham-Wright is one of those people and she wants to let the world know how much Cradle Beach makes a difference in people's lives. In the 1960's, Laura was a Cradle Beach camper. Laura is now writing a book called Cradle of Love about her experiences here, as well as those of others.
As the youngest of the nine Cunningham siblings, she grew up hearing her family stories about Cradle Beach. Her brothers and sisters were all campers, Pioneer Campers, and counselors at the camp throughout the years. Carrying the tradition on, Laura's son was a camper in the Cradle Beach Teen Leadership Pioneer Camper Program in the 1980's. Overall, Laura and her family's active involvement with Cradle Beach has spanned at least a twenty year period and continues with her endeavor to capture the tales of camp in her upcoming book.
As a child she had vowed to write a book someday about the wonders of Cradle Beach. After being a social worker for many years, she has recently returned to college two years ago, where she studied writing at Harvard University.
Knowing that her experiences at Cradle Beach had positively influenced her life, she held to the promise to tell some of the camp stories that have impacted so many people. These stories have been shared for generations with friends, families and loved ones. With the upcoming book, Laura hopes to help share those same stories of Cradle Beach with the world.
