Cradle Beach, where childrens spirits soar

Summer Camp Info for Parents

All parents want their children to have a fun and educational experience in the summer.  They also want to know that their children are safe and happy.  Parents want to feel that their children are as well cared-for at camp as they would be if they were home.

Health and Safety

Parents have trusted their children with Cradle Beach for over 100 years and now we accomodate children with any of approximately 70 special needs.  With a comprehensive infirmary, Cradle Beach has four Registered Nurses on campus at all times attending to a wide variety of medical needs from sprained ankles to regular medications and procedures.

One of the reasons that children succeed at Cradle Beach is the low camper to counselor ratio.  For most children, there is one counselor for every four campers, but the ratio goes as low as one-to-one.   In addition, each child creates a plan for self-improvement while at camp.  Whether it's making a new friend, learning to swim, or becoming more responsible, each child actively works toward his or her personal goals.

Activities

So what happens during an average day at camp? First, all campers participate fully in the exciting and challenging adventures of camp.  Although much time is spent in group activity, there is every opportunity for children to choose from an array of activities called play stations.

Sample Schedule

7:30 AM Polar Bear Swim:  A refreshing swim to start the day right. Any camper who participates in the Polar Bear Swim each day at camp receives an ice cream sundae on the last day of camp.
8:30 AM Breakfast:  Children have every meal including this one with their cabin mates in the Jim Kelly House. All food allergies are taken into account.
10:00  AM Play station Activities: Every camper chooses two activities and participates in them with other campers.
12:45 PM Lunch:  Campers attend their meals and routinely engage in a cheering contest afterward to see who has the most cabin spirit.
1:30 PM Siesta:  Camp-wide quiet time finds campers taking a nap or a break in their cabins.
3:00 PM Swim: Cabins take turns using the pool. Each camper takes a swim test on the first day and receives a bracelet that indicates which areas of the pool they are allowed to use (quiet end, deep end, shallow end, etc).
4:00 PM Cabin Activities: Campers enjoy activities with their cabin mates.
6:15 PM Dinner:  Children eat dinner with their cabin in the Kelly House. Each camper is served family style by Pioneer Campers or PCs (14-16 year olds).
7:00 PM Camp-Wide Activity: Every camper enjoys a performance by area entertainers or participates in activities such as a luau. On the last evening, children take part in a closing campfire with songs and stories.

8:30 PM Evening Snack: Children enjoy a nutritious snack before returning to their cabins at 9:00.
9:30 PM Lights Out:  It's one big sleepover--except campers actually sleep!
