For Campers: Respite Weekends
A chance to see a movie or go on a weekend getaway is a special treat for those caring for a loved one with a developmental disability.
The Cradle Beach Respite program offers just that - a reprieve from the daily tasks associated with caring for a loved one that needs special attention. Each year Cradle Beach offers 4 weekend respites in the spring and 4 more through out the fall season.
Our camper to counselor ratio of less than two to one enables our staff to serve a variety of people with special needs. All Respite Program staff has worked as Cradle Beach summer camp counselors and are experienced, skilled, and trained in working with special people. Their warmth and spirit assure a safe, fun weekend for all.
The fee for the weekend is $65.00, but a sliding fee scale is available for those families who cannot pay this fee. No one is turned down for inability to pay.
Cradle Beach Camp's Weekend Respite Program is supported with funds from the Western New York State Developmental Disabilities Services Office Family Support Services initiative.
Respite attendees arrive at Camp on Friday by 7:00 p.m. and depart on Sunday. Most Respite Program participants are driven to and from camp by their families; however, we can provide round-trip transportation for those who need it.
The weekend agenda is based upon on our camp program, offering arts and crafts, culinary arts, music, dance and a general good time for all. The program is a relaxed combination of indoor and outdoor activities including music, arts and crafts, and a campfire on the beach. All meals are provided in our dining room.
All applicants must be 10 years old or older and be developmentally disabled. They must live at home with family and NOT in a group home or other situation. To qualify for the Cradle Beach Respite Weekend program, applicants must live in one of the seven counties of Western New York; Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, or Orleans County.
