Campership Stories
The following are just a few of the hundreds of stories being made every year at Cradle Beach. Every camper that arrives at Cradle Beach comes from a unique background and, by the time they return home, every camper has a new personal story about how their Cradle Beach experience touched them and how it will continue to resonate for months afterward.

Declan
Declan’s story is a perfect example of how Cradle Beach helps every camper thrive—especially when they start out shy. When Declan, who was featured in Cradle Beach’s Summer Appeal, first learned about Cradle Beach, he wasn’t sure he even wanted to attend. He was quiet, hesitant, and unsure of himself. But by the end of that week, everything changed. Today, Declan is a regular not only at summer camp, but also in Cradle Beach’s respite program. Because of Cradle Beach, he found his confidence, made new friends, and discovered how good it feels to be fully included. Now he’s more active in school and in his community—because at Cradle Beach, he truly belongs.

Patrick
For Patrick, Cradle Beach has been a place of growth, belonging, and joy for nearly 20 years. When he first arrived, his family understandably had big questions—would he make friends, eat comfortably, feel safe, and find his way? Patrick has Down syndrome, and his parents wanted him to have the chance to experience summer the way other kids do. Cradle Beach gave him that opportunity—and more. He blossomed, became a regular camper, and used camp to build stronger friendships and be a better communicator. The independence he gains—without mom and dad hovering—helps him gain confidence to be exactly who he is. That’s what your support makes possible.

Tyler
Tyler’s story shows how Cradle Beach supports not just campers, but the whole family. Cradle Beach is known for its focus on the child—and Tyler certainly gets that. He gets to swim, play, and enjoy camp activities in a way that feels safe and exciting. But what has been just as powerful is the impact on his mom, his sole caregiver. A week at Cradle Beach gives her the rare chance to refresh and recharge—knowing Tyler is safe, supported, and truly cared for. When she gets him back, she can immediately see the positive changes that took shape. That peace of mind is priceless—and it’s made possible by donors.

Jacob
Cradle Beach is a place where Jacob can finally relax, feel supported, and truly belong. As a child with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, it can take time for Jacob to trust, adjust, and build friendships. In many settings, those challenges would limit him. At Cradle Beach, they don’t. While attending camp, Jacob formed genuine connections and developed something wonderful: a real excitement about coming back each year. He now looks forward to participating in activities and making new friends. The feeling of being included and accepted has brought immeasurable change—not just to him, but to his entire family. For his single parent and sole caregiver, camp provides much-needed respite. Jacob requires constant attention and supervision, and camp gave his parent the chance to recharge emotionally and physically—confident that he was safe and happy. Your donation helps families like ours get that critical break.

Samantha
Samantha deserves the kind of summer most teens take for granted—and Cradle Beach delivers it in the most meaningful way. She doesn’t just “get a camp experience.” Because of Cradle Beach’s commitment to the physical, emotional, social, and developmental well-being of vulnerable youth, Samantha can participate safely and confidently in a way that traditional programs often can’t support. At Cradle Beach, she can build friendships, gain independence, and experience true inclusion—without barriers separating her from other teens. She doesn’t have to face the obstacles that too often isolate young people like her. Thanks to donors, Samantha gets a summer that feels like belonging.

Kaila
Kaila’s story is about courage—and about what’s possible when camp support meets medical reality with care and compassion. Kaila’s beginning was different from many others: she is a recent recipient of a kidney transplant, and her medical needs require constant attention. For her, being able to move freely, enjoy life, and participate fully in community activities is not something to assume—it must be supported. Cradle Beach made that possible. With a team of medical professionals on-site 24/7, camp gave Kaila the chance to enjoy everything Cradle Beach offers—fully, confidently, and joyfully. Your donation helps ensure that no child’s medical needs ever become a reason they have to miss out.
